I started this review of The Daily Mirror's Value Scope racing tipster on 01 December 2007 as a record of the results of an average person in the street.

Due to the consistent results Valuescope has been achieving , by the time your paper gets delivered the suggested price is likely to have dropped. So I will post Valuescopes tips each Saturday morning as early as possible (think of me when it's freezing cold and snowing trudging down to the newsagents)

I will also post the results, the prices I was actually able to get, and my profit / loss on a weekly and cumulative basis.

Valuescope Tips Update

On Saturday 15 December 2007 The Daily Mirror updated Valuescope's cumulative profit and on their figures he is up over 318 points this year.

Two weeks ago, on Saturday 01 December, The Mirror published his annual profit for the year as 312 points.

So they are showing a profit of 6 points in the 2 weeks against my actual profit of 3.5 points.

So my actual profit is currently 58% of the theoretical profit.
It will be interesting to see how this varies over the comming weeks.
Even on my current actual figures I would be showing a profit of 184 points over the year, so it's still looking good.

Daily Mirror Value Scope Result 08 December 2007 Week 2

Week 2
Value Scope picked a winner this week, but the suggested bet meant that todays tips produced a small loss.
I had to place my bets before 06.30 today so I could only get SP on Ring The Boss. As it happens it won at the suggested 7-4
Even at that time in the morning the price on Rebel Raider had already dropped from the target 33-1 down to 28-1. Not that it mattered as it wasn't in the frame.

What Is The Value Scope Daily Mirror Tipster Column

Value Scope is a horse racing tipping article in the Saturday edition of the Daily Mirror.

Each week he picks a couple of horses based on "Value" and suggests the bet for each .

The tip will normally be 2 high priced horses in the same race and the suggested bet is normally each way. The stake amount will be given in points and will vary according to the "Value Scope" of each horse.

The column has been running since January 2005 and the published returns for each year are:
2005 215 points
2006 215 points
2007 312 points (up to end of November)

On first glance this looks dramatic, however the average suggested bet is 2 points each way on 2 horses. In other words 8 points per race. So over the three years you would have averaged 5 points profit per week for an 8 point bet.

Now spending 8 to win 5 doesn't sound that great, but if you look over the 3 years your 8 has grown to 742 !!!!

Due to the very nature of the Value Scope horse racing system you should expect that in most weeks that you will only break even, or make a small profit or loss, but when the winners happen they are at very high odds.

As this is a long term system you should ensure that you persevere through the less profitable periods and also ensure that you keep a "bank" . I would suggest that your bank should be in the region of 20 points.

The Daily Mirror Value Scope column has got an amazing track record and statistically there is every reason that it will continue to produce similar returns.

However, as you are never going to be able to get the best price each week, this blog will be an interesting experiment to see what the realistic returns for the average guy in the street turn out to be.

Value Scope Review Overview

I have been following the Daily Mirror Value Scope tipster, for 3 months and have roughly tripled my bank.

Today The Daily Mirror has made a big song & dance about the success Value Scope has had since 2005.

I haven't been able to find any stats on Value Scope performance week to week. So I thought as seen as I'm following him each week, I would post my experiences.

I assume that the results that The Daily Mirror are claiming would be achieved only if you were actually able to place your bet at the best price available.

The chances of doing this every week are NIL!

So this blog is the record of what happens in reality.

Each week I will post:

Value Scope's suggestions.
The price quoted in the Value Scope section of the Daily Mirror.
The actual price I managed to get.
The starting price.
The result.
The weeks profit/loss I achieved.
The cumulative profit/loss I am achieving.

The Daily Mirror doesn't always seem to publish the Valuescope tips on the net, and by the time your paper boy/girl arrives, the price will more than likely have have already dropped!

So each Saturday morning I will try to post the Value Scope tips as early as possible. (Think of me going down to the newsagents in the snow and freezing cold over the next couple of months when you're spending your winnings)

Oh by the way, I know nothing about horses and I do not normally bet. This is purely an exercise in statistics, so if you want any insight into racing I can't help.

If you have any suggestions please feel free to leave a comment.
